Personality
Brief At first glance, Mikata gives the impression that he holds knowledge of things that no ordinary person could hold. He is a quiet and solitary individual that tries very hard to keep a neutral attitude about the people around him despite his personal feelings. But despite his best efforts, any slight he has to endure is remembered and returned later (it's not unusual for him to wait several years) with at least twice the initial suffering in the form of a humiliating prank.

Motivation People that try to deceive him or his friends in any way are treated with contempt and disgust. More than anything, Mikata hates liars and opportunists since he was born with the ability to see and understand auras. He saw easily his little sister was misled and how badly she kept trusting the wrong person and swore to prevent events like that from happening again.

However, those that win his trust learn that he is the kind of person that likes to mercilessly tease those close to him. While that experience isn't always a pleasant one, Mikata is more than willing to allow them to make full use of any knowledge, property or influence he has gained over the many years of his life.

    Past

Mikata had always been able to see auras but it was his mother that taught him what the colours meant. His parents took it upon themselves to teach him how control the unusually high Ryuzan mental powers he and Amefuri inherited from them. As he grew more proficient, his mother warned him that needed to protect his little sister if anything happened to them. Of course, he didn't want to be tied to a sibling for the rest of his life but he promised her none-the-less.

Shortly after that, Mikata left to join the Ryuzan military to further his training and made friends with Kouhei who had also entered a division called the "Silver Shadows." During a trip back home, the village was attacked by a force led by a man with glowing red eyes and his mother disappeared during the conflict. Kouhei barely managed to protect Amefuri in Mikata's place and Mikata decided to leave her in the care of the Priestess Order.

Upon his return, Mikata received orders to help another unit track down someone causing them trouble. They were investigating an unstable portal when Mikata was critically injured from the damage to his Soul Crystal. He fled from the other team's betrayal through the portal and ended up in a decrepit mansion that joined to a realm of shadow demons. An aged master lived in the mansion that offered to re-forge the Soul Crystal into the Nocturne Emblem and repair the damage in exchange for his obedience and a contract with the shadow demons. He agreed and gained the power to transform into Dusk.

Present     Mikata took over the mansion and conveniently forgot to mention he was planning to completely remodel it in his master's absence. He had just completed work on it when he heard from his best friend, Kouhei, that Amefuri had been found in Tokyo and was was still very, very angry with him for dying, apparently.

While he had no problem with allowing her to continue thinking that when the other members of his team (that he allowed to stay in the mansion that didn't belong to him) convinced him that it was a bad idea to do that. He got Kouhei to bring Amefuri back to the Node mansion, not that was thinking that having the home-advantage was necessary, to prove that he was alive.

Afterwards, Mikata and the others all sought places to live in the normal world. He ended up buying a nice downtown apartment but having to get a job to afford living in the city. It took a bit of searching but he found a fairly good paying job as a part-time waiter/cook at a restaurant near his city apartment. Later, he happily discovered that Amefuri worked in a nearby restaurant and he frequently goes there when she's on duty to make a pest of himself.
