Personality
Brief Yorukai is the kind of person that tries his best to be liked by everyone he meets. He's very outgoing and enthusiastic and doesn't understand the word "caution" at all. When people treat him badly or betray him, he bears no grudges since it's already in the past. However, Yorukai will not leave anyone alone until he knows why they're angry and what he can do to make things better, whether his help is wanted or not.

Motivation The first impression he gives is that of an easily distracted clown that doesn't really know what he's doing and how he got where he is. Internally it's an entirely different story. He knows very well that the best way to gather information and to keep anyone from being alerted to anything odd about him (such as his connection to Shinigami) is to act the part of the fool. To keep his identities separated, he is very serious and avoids talking when transformed.

    Past

Yorukai was usually called Kaiki (trans: strange) instead of his real name as a child because he was born with the power to manipulate electricity in addition to his people's power over water. Of course everyone was wary of him for good reason, but Yorukai had also inherited their weakness to electricity. In short, using electricity hurts him as badly as it would if he were normal.

He left Rusalki in hopes of either finding a way to get rid of the electric powers or to learn how to control them and finally got a lead on an exiled member of the Rusalki nobility that was in the same situation as him. The nobleman agreed to teach Yorukai what he knew about controlling electricity so it wouldn't kill either of them and modified Yorukai's Soul Crystal into the Blood Crystal. However, planet-hopping is expensive and he had fallen into debt with some mercenaries.

The mercenaries managed to track him down but the nobleman had pull with the group and convinced them to make Yorukai work off his debt as a member. The years passed and Yorukai, who had left his original name behind by then, was a full-fledged member of the group when he was approached by the nobleman with a request from a member of Rusalki's royal family. Yorukai accepted and travelled to Ryuza but had attracted some suspicion. During a mission to a world outside the Kui-Shen system, he was warned of Kouhei's suspicion by a fellow mercenary and Yorukai was told to hide on "some backwater world in Sol" until things quieted down.

Present     Yorukai currently lives in an all-boys student dorm in Tokyo University with a roommate, Akuma. He usually doesn't stay in one city for more than 8 years since people start noticing that he doesn't seem to be aging and some inconvenient questions will be asked. He is, after all, supposed to avoid attracting attention to himself.

When Yorukai had first arrived in the city, he wasted no time in running afoul of some creditors. He desperately searching for a way to placate them since just waiting for them to die was particularly difficult when they had the power of the Okugi corporate empire behind them. He was caught by the heir, Okugi Akio, and told to work off his debt as a bodyguard to at the (at the time) 11-year-old Okugi Akuma.

At first Yorukai refused to Akio's terms but Akuma bullied Yorukai into it by saying that the Okugi's had pictures of a certain blue-haired individual that hadn't seemed to have aged in all the decades he had been in Japan. After all, it was only fair that Yorukai compensate them for all the trouble he's caused the family.
