Illusion of Darkness - 6

Last Revised: Never

Amefuri sat, alone, in her desk beside the windows. She was silently fuming at Yorukai and was in the process of planning a painful and bloody death for him. The rest of the class was lounging around the room talking to each other and (most likely) about what happened between Yorukai and herself that morning. Amefuri stared out of the window at the trees as a familiar person walked up to her.

"Amefuri?" A soft male voice asked from behind her.  Amefuri turned and glared over her shoulder at the person that had spoken.  He was resting his chin in his hands and leaned across his desk to speak to her. Amefuri's expression softened slightly when she realized it wasn't Yorukai, it was just the pest that sat behind her.

"What do you want?" Amefuri said in a tired voice.

"I was just worried about you..." He said looking at her with a concerned look.

"Why?" Amefuri turned around in her chair and scowled at him.

"Well, I...."  Immediately, he looked uncomfortable and nervously ran his fingers through his hair.  "I was just worried about how you were taking what happened this morning."

"Look, Shinzui, I don't need your concern."  Amefuri sighed and shook her head in disbelief when he gave her a confused look.

Amefuri sighed again and turned away from him.  Shinzui tried to please everyone and make sure everyone was happy...even those that didn't WANT to be happy.  As a result, he gets pushed around and doesn't complain to anyone about it. 'Well...he tries...at least he isn't as annoying as Yorukai.' Amefuri glanced over her shoulder and saw Shinzui's sad expression.

"Oh....I see....." Shinzui said softly, with a crestfallen look. "Well, I was just asking Miss Amefuri..."

"Don't bother," Amefuri said slowly. "This is none of your business."

"Ame! That wasn't a very nice thing to say!" Yorukai chided Amefuri as he walked up and grinned at Shinzui. "Don't worry, Ame just likes to be difficult.  She'll warm up to you!"

"Yes sir..." Shinzui said a barely audible voice.  "Excuse me...I have to go to my locker...."

"Sure thing!" Yorukai shot him one last grin at Shinzui as he rushed away before turning his attention to Amefuri. "Now Ame, you've got to work on your people skills!"

Amefuri growled and shot Yorukai a dark glare, which was ignored.  He babbled on and on about what Amefuri could do to become a better person while the class turned to stare at (and whisper about) them. Amefuri glared around the classroom at each of the students with a look of death.  Unfortunately, they were all to busy gossiping about her and Yorukai to notice...

"Yorukai...." Amefuri grabbed his tie and pulled him down to her level to glare at him. "Shut UP!"

"Ehhh......" Yorukai paled slightly and nodded quickly. "Right! So sorry Ame!"

The other students stared at them for a moment before talking to each other in hushed, hurried tones. Amefuri shot the class one more look of death before turning her attention back to the problem at hand. She turned back to Yorukai, who was looking awfully happy.

"Get lost." Amefuri said in a deadpan voice.

"But Ame! I..." Yorukai began to protest

"Leave me alone." Amefuri with a dark glare. "Forget about trying to tutor me.  Walk away from this while you can still walk."

"A~me! I'm just trying to help you! What's wrong with that? Besides, it's my JOB to keep an eye out for you.  I just want you to pass this grade and learn how to become a productive member of society! " Yorukai babbled on unaware of Amefuri's reactions. Amefuri's expression darkened further (if at all possible) and she got to her feet.  Yorukai turned and gave Amefuri an curious look, then he grinned.

"Let's go to my office!" Yorukai smiled and grabbed Amefuri's wrist. "I've got some books that could help you control that temper of yours!"

"........" Amefuri glared at Yorukai's hand on her wrist.

"C'mon Ame! " Yorukai tugged on Amefuri's wrist and grinned. "I've also got some ads for some great clubs that you join!"

Amefuri growled darkly and jerked away from Yorukai.  Yorukai gave her a surprised look and reached out to take her hand again. Amefuri grabbed her case off the ledge and hit Yorukai as hard as she could.  Yorukai quickly ducked her swing and stumbled back a few steps.

"Ame!? What are you doing?" Yorukai dodged another swipe of Amefuri's bag and gave her a weak smile. "C'mon, I was just trying to help!"

Amefuri only glared at him and walked towards him calmly holding her bag at her side.  Yorukai glanced around the room at the other people in the room for help.  However, they only stared at them and backed away...he was on his own.  Yorukai swallowed hard and turned back to face Amefuri.  She was still walking towards him with a strange, empty, look in her eyes.

"Ahahahahaa...." Yorukai backed up against the desk.  "Now Ame...no need to resort to violence..."

Amefuri continued walking slowly towards him despite his efforts to get her attention.  Yorukai looked around frantically for anything that could help him. His eyes fell upon a pointer stick that had been left on the desk. He quickly grabbed it and brandished it.

"St..stop right there Ame." Yorukai waved the stick in her face in hopes of frightening her.  However, she only grabbed the stick away from him and threw it away.  "Ahaha.....oh boy.  This is NOT a good thing..." Yorukai laughed nervously and backed away.

"Amefuri?" A gentle voice drifted through the silent classroom and caught everyone's attention. Everyone turned and saw a familiar outline in the doorway with a confused and surprised look. "What are you doing to Mr. Chikawa?"

"Shinzui?" Amefuri paused and blinked several times in confusion. She looked at Shinzui with an odd look for a few moments before seeming to snap out of her thoughts. Amefuri shook her head and her expression hardened again. "What is it?"

"I wa....nothing," Shinzui said softly and with a concerned look. "Are you okay Amefuri?"

"I don't see why it should concern you." Amefuri growled, pushing past him to exit the room.  Shinzui silently moved out of the way and watched her leave.  Amefuri then paused and said softly as she walked past him. "...but if you must know, I am fine."

Shinzui smiled faintly at her in return and nodded.  "Take care Amefuri..."

"Che...." Amefuri tossed her hair over her shoulder and walked away.

*  *  *

A young man stepped through the entranceway and into a dimly lighted room.  The footsteps sounded unbearably loud as the person walked across the room.  The person stopped in front of a large, black desk and saluted the man shrouded in darkness sitting behind the desk.

"Results?" The man behind the desk demanded harshly.

"Sir, the test was carried out and was successful."

"Good," The man nodded in approval. "Were there any problems that need to be dealt with?"

"Yes sir.  A boy interrupted the test before it could be completed."

"This boy...." He said softly with a thoughtful look. "This boy needs to be dealt with before we go any farther."

"But SIR! He doesn't pose any kind of a threa...."

"Perhaps you didn't hear me clearly the first time..." He turned his chair to look at the person over the rim of his dark sun glasses.  The young man shrunk from the intensity of the man's eyes.  Any protests that may have been voiced, stuck in the young man's throat as he looked into the man's dark purple eyes.

"I want you to deal with the boy before we proceed." The young man paled and took a step back as the man's eyes glowed with jade green light.

"Y...yes sir..." He nodded quickly and swallowed hard.

"Good," The man gave the person a patronizing smile and turned away. "You are dismissed."

The young man saluted the man once more and left the room. His footsteps echoed loudly in the hollow room until the noise ended with the creak of the closing door.  The man turned away and stared out of bay window behind him.  He sighed and absently fingered a delicate silver necklace hanging around his neck.

"This time...." He whispered. "This time will be different."
