Cellblock Z - Where There's Smoke

Last Revised: Never

At the end of a long day of superhero hunting, Yorukai decided that David had shown amazing patience in the face of the adversity and therefore deserved something to lift his spirits. David insisted that subtlety was needed when talking to the girls he mysteriously knew were heroes, but Yorukai knew better. When looking for Senshi, you can't just ask them and wait for them to show up! Sure, there would be a few that would be willing to help, but the vast majority would probably shrug off poor David's efforts to save his brother. Not only that, but now Ame-chan was caught up in this mess!

"Um.. excuse me?" David approached a girl with long white hair and held up his sketch before repeating his questions he had been asking all day. Yorukai immediately recognized her as that scary girl that threatened him only a few months ago. How was he supposed to know that she wouldn't like his cooking?

'Really!' Yorukai grouched to himself, 'You would think that she'd be more grateful that I managed to convince Ame-chan to help her get better!'

"He's got black hair, is pretty tall..."

By this point, Yorukai had begun to get a little tired of  the whole patience thing and decided that it was time that he made himself useful. Yorukai tapped David on the shoulder and explained that he had just remembered that he forgot to finish something. David only nodded distractedly and continued talking to Aurora. Satisfied with his response, Yorukai turned on his heel and dashed down the street.

He wasn't absolutely sure what would be the best thing to do now. Although the people they talked to seemed less than willing to help in many cases, Yorukai had a feeling that their curiosity would eventually lead them to the mansion. Well, that is, with a little bit of incentive!

Yorukai grinned wickedly and fingered the blood-red crystal hanging around his neck.

The sun was just beginning to set when Yorukai had finally reached the mansion. A small part of him was hoping that it would have grown less ominous during the day he spent away from it but it still looked the way he remembered. Only now, there was the addition of a boy upon the crumbling roof... and the angry people that were probably following him.

"Well then, I'd better deliver this food while I still can!" Yorukai cheerfully tightened the straps of his bag and strode towards the house. He stopped behind a wall that had managed to stay intact and peered around. "Good, no one's here yet." Yorukai smiled and silently leapt onto the roof. Unfortunately, the tiles of the roof were far from secure where Yorukai had landed. 'Most likely the were loosened by whatever tore the roof open,' Yorukai thought as he scrambled to find secure footing before sliding off the roof altogether.

He pressed a hand to his chest and stared at the tiles that lay shattered on the ground below. 'That would have certainly hurt.' Yorukai sighed in relief and turned to see that his undignified entrance had gone unnoticed. David lay upon his back and stared blankly up at the fading twilight. 'This must really be wearing on him...' Yorukai grinned and slid the bag from his shoulder when he heard David's stomach growl.

"Yorukai to the rescue!" He declared in a booming theatrical voice and bounded forward with bento in hand. 'I guess I should have made some noise first...' Yorukai grabbed David's arm before he had a chance to slide off the roof and flashed a smile at the gasping boy before plopping down and pulling out some chopsticks.

    "Eat! Eat!" He grinned.

Several minutes passed in silence while their attention was completely captured by the steaming food before them. Shortly after David had finished his bento, Yorukai had noticed a strange sound from below. Offering to dispose of the trash, Yorukai moved unseen to the far side of the roof to peer at the first arrivals, slowly walking down the road.

"Ah.. good. They took the bait!" Yorukai grinned down at the girls and slid the empty boxes into his bag. "Well, time to sit back and watch! Hopefully, they'll be able to figure out how to open that portal."

But as time passed and more girls showed up, they seemed quite unaware of the portal.

"I need warriors... not schoolgirls..!" David exclaimed in frustration, "They won't be able to do anything in those forms..." He chewed his lip, trying to think of a way to get the girls to transform.

After hearing those words, Yorukai grinned and quietly moved towards the gaping hole in the roof. He leapt down and ran down the hall, looking for a place that he could transform without the danger of being seen. "Honestly! There are too many windows in this place!" Yorukai skid to a halt and looked around before spying the open door of the bathroom. "That will have to do," He mused and closed the door.

    "Shadow Exchange!"

The red crystal that Yorukai held above his head shone with some sort of inner light before the room melted into an endless night sky. A glowing circle hovered below his feet and above his upraised arm. From within these circles came an electric tempest; swirling around Yorukai and encasing him in a column of blue ice. Then, a silver blade fell and shattered the ice into a tiny blizzard of fading shards. Shinigami gripped a faintly glowing silver scythe in his gloved hands and turned to survey the room.

"Oh this is just wonderful," Shinigami glanced at the girls below. "More of them showed up." He sighed and looked around the bathroom once more. If he was going to pull this off, he was going to need a disguise. "Now... what can I use...? I can't let them know who I am right away..."

Shinigami's eyes fell upon the dark blue shower curtain. "Hey...that could work." He carefully removed the curtain from the pole and slung it around his shoulders before studying his appearance in the mirror. "Perfect!" Shinigami frowned over his shoulder at a few stray rings that clinked together when he moved. They remained stubbornly attached to the curtain despite his best efforts to remove them, but there wasn't a lot he could do about that now. He had a schedule to keep!

Shinigami perched on the sturdiest pinnacle he could find on the roof. It wouldn't help his reputation (or the atmosphere he was trying to create) by crashing through a weak part of the roof or losing his balance and falling to ground below. A few metres away, David had his face buried in his hands, obviously distressed about the lack of Senshi. So, it was time to put an end to that!

Shinigami waited for the wind to pick up slightly before clearing his throat and declaring in the deepest, most ominous and most evil sounding voice he could muster. "I can't believe you're stupid enough to fall for such a simple trap!" And chuckled darkly at the reactions of the girls below.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that David looked quite surprised. 'Well, time to prove my worth!' Shinigami thought to himself and leapt into the air; the growing starlight reflected off the translucent blade of the scythe, raised high above his head.

"NOW! Let's see what you're made of!"

The moment Shinigami's feet touched the ground, he switched the grip on his scythe and used the momentum of the fall to carve the air open in a deadly arc of silver. Several girls dove to the ground while others threw themselves back in a desperate attempt to dodge. As one brave girl tried to strike him down from behind, Shinigami dropped to his knees and knocked her away with a single blow from the shaft of his weapon.

He was distantly aware of a something while he pressed his attack. The moment he faltered, they would be able to recover from their initial surprise and mount an attack of their own. Never the less, Shinigami found his mind wandering as he easily slid into the familiar patterns of attack. He moved with through the space with practiced ease; silvery-blue arcs of light chased the shining blade in the moonlight, weaving an intricate net around his body. Shinigami gracefully spun and strode, dodged and bowed, leapt and rolled. He flowed through the space with the coordination and precision of an expert.

He was performing a dance of death.

At its conclusion, Shinigami bowed to the emptied space and gazed calmly at his 'new' audience. He grinned with dark amusement and, on an impulse, struck a menacing pose before he flung the 'cloak' away. Finally revealing the identity of their opponent.

"Whoever you are, you just made a BIG mistake!" A Sailor Soldier stepped forward and prepared to fight.

Shinigami only grinned. This was proving to be a worthwhile distraction from his day. Normally he would accept her challenge, but Shinigami knew that he had already accomplished what he set out to do and bowed to the girl.

"Why, the God of Death never makes mistakes!" He replied and leapt to the safety of the roof, only waiting long enough for the others to appear before disappearing from view.

Shinigami soundlessly ran along the perimeter of the roof until he reached the hole in the roof. David carefully leaned over the edge, trying, like the people below, to find a sign of the mysterious attacker. 'I should see if he's okay...' Shinigami shook his head and swung his scythe to rest across his shoulders before clearing his throat. David started and turned around with his mouth open to speak, but the words died in his throat as he stared up at Shinigami.

"Um.. umm.. G- good work!" David swallowed hard and offered a weak smile before giving him a thumbs up. Nervous sweat trickled down the side of his face.

'I guess I should stop scaring the poor kid,' Shinigami mused to himself and chuckled. 'Not like I didn't scare him enough already.' He turned and leapt to the ground, just behind the mansion.

"Good, there's no one here." Shinigami touched the blood-red crystal around his neck. At some unspoken command, the crystal flared to life and his body was obscured from view by a pale blue light. When the light faded, Yorukai leaned against the wall and sighed in relief. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to pull it off, but it worked! And nobody found him either!

"HEY! Hold it!" A female voice shouted behind Yorukai. A quick glance over his shoulder revealed that one of the Senshi had found him. Fortunately she didn't see him change back.

"Uh.. sorry! Wrong house!" Yorukai turned to flee for his life and ran head first into a male warrior who did not look the least bit amused. "Ahaha.... Lovely evening we're having, ne?"

The warrior mumbled something under his breath and turned to the girl. They grabbed hold of Yorukai's arms and dragged him back to the waiting group before he could attempt anything. As they moved closer, they could being to hear the accusations of the other Senshi and David's attempts to clear up any misunderstanding.

"So you WERE laying a trap after all!"

Yorukai cringed. 'I guess I should have been a little more discreet when I was convincing them to show up earlier....'

The girl holding one of his arms shouted to the group. "And here's his accomplice!"

At the cries of anger and betrayal that erupted, Yorukai felt as if he wanted to sink into the floor. Poor David! Because Yorukai decided to go off by himself, now David wouldn't be able to save his brother. Or Ame-chan!

"But.. you have it all wroooong!" Yorukai objected loudly, "His brother was kidnapped, and my friend disappeared, and, and- oooh, pretty lights!"

A strange portal slid open and released a silent storm into the area. Everyone stared at the sight for a moment before springing into motion. Some tried to run away, some tried to close the portal, others tried to stop others from getting too close to the portal. In the confusion, Yorukai found that he was no longer being restrained by the warrior and the Senshi. Everyone was being pulled into the wind. It was just like when Amefuri and that other Senshi were, the other day.

Yorukai tightened his grip on the doorframe and noticed that David was being pulled towards the portal. Before he could consider his actions, Yorukai ran towards David and shoved him out of the wind's path before being tangled in the portal's storm. Everything faded into darkness and screaming winds.

He didn't know how long he was trapped in that portal, but when the winds died away, Yorukai found himself suspended several feet above the ground. Crashing to the floor with an anguished cry, Yorukai pushed his sore body into a sitting position and surveyed his new surroundings. He was in a dank cell with nothing but iron bars and grey stones for company

"Well," Yorukai sighed and leaned back against a wall. "I guess that Death CAN make mistakes."
